It has been 8 years since Coll View was last white-washed. It hasn’t done badly, but a fresh coat of white was badly needed.
Coll View has a lot of walls, and high ones at that. This is no cottage. The roof ridge on the big part of the house is 40 feet up.
When I have not been working over the last week, I have been white-washing. I managed to get some extra help in the form of friends who happened to be visiting the island, and my Dad is in residence to hold ladders in case I come crashing down.
I have crawled along ridges, lost count of the number of times I have gone up and down ladders, and I have found a variety of novel ways to transport paint pots. It has been 6 days, and I reckon I am now over halfway. The front of the house is finished.
The next stages include the back wall and the south gable, and the chimneys and skews on the big house. That’s the scary bit.
Then of course, I need to paint all the gutters, downpipes, window frames and window ledges.
I’ll see you some time around Christmas…
