Bliadhna Mhath Ùr!
It’s another year, and another 12 months of challenges lie ahead.
I got through the festering season unscathed, as did all around me, and I am ready to launch into what I hope is going to be a productive 2015.
I ended the year buying a transit van in order to facilitate the house renovation, before succumbing to a cold which pretty much curtailed all my well-laid plans for the Holiday season.
No matter, I am fit again and ready to go.
I don’t do resolutions, but this year I have set myself 4 goals:
- Get part of the house into a state to be let.
- Revise and edit my Nanowrimo novel.
- Start a market garden business.
- Finally bring my connected croft plan to life by automating the hen house.
That’s adequate, I reckon.
So far, 2015 has gifted me a leak in the old back boiler pipes. Thank you, universe.
In other news, I was dead chuffed to provide the potatoes, carrots, parsnips and sprouts for Christmas dinner at my neighbour’s house. The sprouts were a triumph, particularly because the co-op had run out and sprouts were thin on the ground in Tiree this Christmas.
I leave you with a glimpse into the Automated Henhouse, and the troubling workings of my mind…
It has a temperature and humidity sensor, a light sensor which switches on a light when it is dark, an RFID sensor and a door motor. I want to add an egg counter, a realtime clock and actually get the thing beyond a hacked up prototype, but it is a good start!
It is an Arduino set up and I’ll post all the specs and details when I get it operational.
