101 uses for a dog crate #1 – A Hen Hospital

I looks like my troublesome dog, Mya, has finally got her bowels in order and for the last fortnight has not required to be crated overnight.

Which is good, because one of my hens, a Red Rock, has developed a nasty case of bumblefoot. Yes, it is a thing. Their feet swell up because of infection in a cut.

I felt like an idiot going to get antibiotics for a hen, but to be fair, it was at the vet’s suggestion. So, I have made a hen hospital out of the dog crate, and she has antibiotics in her water.

She has five days to improve or sadly, I will have to dispatch her. It’s really painful for them, and can be fatal if the infection gets into the tendons.
